A Look at Past US Accidents Involving Balcony Collapses

Six people died and seven others were seriously injured when a fourth-floor balcony crammed with revelers collapsed Tuesday in Berkeley, California. All least five of the dead people were Irish students in the U.S. on temporary work visas.
Police, fire and building officials were working to determine what caused the balcony to break loose from the side of the apartment building.

CHICAGO, JUNE 29, 2003
About 50 people were on a third-floor porch in the affluent Lincoln Park neighborhood when it fell. Seven men and six women died, most crushed on porches below. At least 57 people were injured.
