On December 12th, 2014, Brian Wilson gathered former Beach Boysbandmates (Al Jardine) and high-profile guests (fun.'s Nate Ruess, Kacey Musgraves) in Las Vegas for the PBS Soundstage concert special Brian Wilson & Friends. Now the pop-rock legend will release CD/DVD and Blu-ray editions of the show on July 29th via BMG.
Brian Wilson & Friends, which originally aired nationwide on PBS throughout 2015, was offered as exclusive DVD and Blu-ray sets as a premium gift for viewer contributions to the network's annual pledge drive. The CD version will be available for the first time, along with bonus tracks, behind-the-scenes footage and guest artist interviews.
Rolling Stone is also premiering an exclusive clip from the show: A gorgeous version of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" with Jardine."Thank you for writing that great song," Jardine tells Wilson at the end of the clip.
The album features Wilson and his touring band joined by Jardine, former Beach Boys members Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar and numerous special guests: fun. singer Nate Ruess, Kacey Musgraves, Capital Cities frontman Sebu Simonian, She & Him (M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel) and trumpet player Mark Isham. The track list spans early Beach Boys classics ("Fun, Fun, Fun") to material from Wilson's 2015 solo LP, No Pier Pressure("Runaway Dancer").
Wilson – who will release an autobiography on October 11th – has announced a new round of dates for his Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour, the singer-songwriter's final performances of the 1966 masterpiece LP. The trek, which now picks back up July 29th at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso, Robles, California, will continue through the fall and conclude October 15th in Sacramento.
