Stewart said at the beginning of the interview, “Congratulations!” “You have your own wing now of the Democratic Party. There is a Warren wing, apparently.” He also asked if she is getting the vibe of the fact that it is growing.
“You know, I do get that sense,” Warren admitted, claiming that it’s not just her wing but “our wing.” She also kept on repeating her mantra that the Washington game is “rigged,” Warren although praised Stewart for “calling that out” better than anybody else.
Stewart had been mainly curious about whether Warren’s political peers in the system are actually “cynically manipulating” or “true believers.” And according to the Senator, this all leads back to “powerful corporations” and “rich folks” who by now very well knows how “bend the government” according to their wills and wishes. She believes that from what she sees, the lobbyists are always there to “make sure that the tender fannies of the rich and the powerful are always carefully protected.”
“The wind only blow in one direction,” Warren added. “It only blows from the direction of those who have money.” And the idea of “doing the people’s business” with efforts like raising the minimum wage ends up fleeing out the window like it is nobody’s business.
The voters will keep on hearing statements as such from political figures like Warren and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), but that will be much more difficult to draw out from the Democratic Party’s prospective nominee, Hilary Clinton.
