A gaunt and grim Cissy Houston arrived at an Atlanta hospital Friday to be at her granddaughter’s bedside, as police opened a criminal investigation into Bobbi Kristina’s case.
Law enforcement sources said Bobbi Kristina Brown, 21, had curious injuries that caught their eye — and their investigation is focused on her longtime love interest, Nick Gordon, according to TMZ.com.
Cops are probing allegations of a possible altercation between the couple about an hour before Bobbi Kristina was found slumped in a bathtub by a family friend, TMZ said, citing sources.
There’s an alleged pattern of violence between Gordon and Bobbi Kristina, the website said.
The two claimed to have married last year, but Brown’s family has disputed that, saying they are not legally hitched.

News of the criminal probe came shortly after the arrival of Cissy Houston, 81, which signaled the end could be near.
Sources close to the family have said Bobbi Kristina would not be taken off life-support without Cissy Houston’s presence.
Just hours after Houston arrived, Bobby Brown and his wife pulled up in a white SUV. The R&B singer’s face was worn and swollen, and he moved quickly inside to avoid cameras.
Less than an hour later, he emerged, jumped into an SUV and sped off again.

Houston and another woman left the hospital around 9 p.m., some six hours after they arrived, looking downcast and subdued. The pair refused to speak to with reporters.
Brown, 46, has refused to accept the doctors’ bleak prognosis, praying instead for divine intervention, TMZ said.
But his namesake daughter hasn’t done more than blink her eyes since Saturday, when she was found facedown in a tub in her Atlanta home.
Doctors placed her in a medically induced coma to increase her chances of recovery — but her condition hasn’t improved, according to reports.

She was discovered by family friend Max Lomas, who told cops he arrived at her Roswell home around 9 a.m., according to TMZ.
Lomas has told cops he didn’t see Bobbi Kristina when he arrived, but Gordon was there.
Around 10 a.m., a cable technician knocked at the door, TMZ.com said.
Unable to find Gordon or Bobbi Kristina, Lomas answered the door, according to the website. He let the cable tech in, but Gordon still didn’t appear.

When the cable tech said he needed access to the bedroom, Lomas knocked on the door, TMZ.com said.
That’s when he found Bobbi Kristina unresponsive in the tub.
He screamed for Gordon, who appeared and began administering CPR.
Lomas allegedly told cops he believed Gordon had cleaned up bloodstains and other evidence before police got inside the home, TMZ.com said.
Police have interviewed Lomas and Gordon.
Lomas’ lawyer is looking for a plea deal for him and a promise of immunity, TMZ.com said.
Gordon was booted from Bobbi Kristina’s bedside earlier this week amid family rancor over his presence.
On Friday morning, Bobbi Kristina’s cousin Jerod Brown said on Instagram that things did not look optimistic .

“Though it seems the odds are against her, though doctors don’t see any hope for change ... though it looks impossible for her to stand again STILL PRAY FOR BK,” Jerod Brown said on Instagram, where he posts as yfkennedy.
He later amended that to a slightly more optimistic outlook.
“Let me go further in depth because my words are being taken out of context: Though the doctors may report to the public that opening her eyes is not a good thing or bad thing...#StillPrayForBK Though the media reported she’s in a coma... #StillPrayForBK Though your neighbor may not be hopeful....#StillPrayForBK,” he wrote that evening.
The painful ordeal involving Brown’s only daughter with late pop diva Whitney Houston unfolded against another bit of family drama — Brown’s wife, Alicia Etheridge, is four months pregnant.
The couple already has one son together, 5-year-old Cassius.
According to E!, Brown and some 20 family members took a brief break from the vigil they were holding at Emory University Hospital on Thursday to celebrate his birthday and the pregnancy at a nearby restaurant.
The family fete later erupted into an all-out brawl early Friday.
Cops said that Shayne Brown got into a fight with his mother, Tina Brown. She is Bobby Brown’s older sister, and Shayne Brown is his nephew.
The mother and son dueled over a valet parking ticket at the W hotel in midtown Atlanta — and the fight ended with the mom breaking a glass over her son’s head.
Bobby Brown wasn’t mentioned by witnesses as one of the family members involved in the fight, cops said.
It was an ugly distraction from the potentially awful synchronicity of Bobbi Kristina’s fate with that of her famous mother’s.
The third anniversary of Whitney Houston’s death is Wednesday. Houston, 48, was found unconscious in the bathtub in a luxury suite in a Beverly Hills hotel just hours before the Grammy Awards.
The singer’s cause of death was accidental drowning, complicated by the effects of heart disease and cocaine use, the medical examiner said.
A toxicology report revealed she had several over-the-counter drugs in her system, as well as prescription medications and marijuana.
